Updates, changes and revamp
This past year has seen many changes in the lives of the members of Burning Idols. The band has undergone yet another personnel change in the band. Instead of replacing a drummer, we (Burning Idols) have had the unfortunate departure of one of the 2 founding members with Pablo no longer with the band. Creativity is key when trying to write new material and unfortunately that creative spark was non-existant with the lineup the way it was. It was not the fault of any one member, however the inability for the three of us to agree which direction the band was headed. After proposing a hiatus, Pablo decided to remove his equipment from our practice space, Patti & I handed back the keys to the owner of the warehouse and that was essentially the end of the band as many of you may know it. However, with the purchase of my own recording studio and the continued collaboration between Patti and myself, we have completed our first song and music video and are in the process of finishing the remainder of the yet to be named EP due to be released in the late spring/early summer. We will not be touring or playing out, as we do not have a steady bassist (Patti is taking the task of all guitar and bass tracks on the new EP). With brand new equiptment, guitars, amps and lo-fi effects, the new EP will be a new step and chapter in Burning Idols' history. also, this web site will no longer be our home site as we are in the process of setting up a new site which Patti is building with as we speak. We will have updates on our new myspace page, along with our video and new song(s) as they are completed. Thank you for your support and you will hear from us shortly!
P.S. if you are interested in hearing Pablo's new band, Nebraska Sun and the Mexican Rebel, check them out at www.myspace.com/nebraskasunandthemexicanrebel ...Congrats & good luck Pablito!

Burning Idols
The Feeding Bird
[Elefantrising Records]

This was a pretty interesting little EP called The Feeding Bird by the band Burning Idols that found its way into my inbox the other day. There is something strange and off-kiltre about the mixing of Patricia’s tinny and reverbed Slumber Party meets Madder Rose vocals in the opener “Siempre” with the more edgy, angular and punky musical accompaniment. And in the end I thought it worked quite well.

“Butterflies” has a more standard punky structure. But there’s those vocals again. This time, the guys contribute backup vocals. It’s really interesting… I don’t want to say that the singing lends an element of “twee” to the mix, but the interplay reminds me of Tullycraft, Butterglory, etc.

“Slow Dig” seems to capture the lazy-hazy cadence of Slanted era Pavement, with those shambling “do-do-do”s at the end really reminding me of them. There’s an old band called Star Ghost Dog that comes to mind sometimes, though Burning Idols are much looser than straight-up indiepop. In fact, the closer “Pretty Though” has enough sonic mayhem and machine-gun distortion to sound Sonic Youth-ish. A lovely and dynamic mix of indie rock tunes on this EP.

“The Feeding Bird” is a five song EP by Florida indie rockers, Burning Idols.

I have listened to more Japanese pop-rock than I care to admit. That is why I find myself reading traces of it in to the music of Burning Idols. These attributes maybe unintentional, but I could swear they are there. Maybe it is the small but tough female vocals rolling highly and sweetly over the shifting rock beat, but I can't help but think of Japan's punk goddesses, Judy and Mary, when I listen to songs like "Butterflies," and "Siempre." One thing that clearly separates Burning Idol from the aforementioned genre is their low-fi garage band rock sound. There are two times on "The Feeding Bird" when Burning Idol shines: the final tracks "Happily Depressed" and "Pretty Tough" have some unique qualities. The first offers a sampler of the band's large arsenal of vocal techniques, and the second offers a flood of sound which might best be compared to early Starflyer 59.

I guessing that anyone who has seen Burning Idols live has had a great time. Certainly, I would rather see them perform than hear them on the radio. The downfall with "The Feeding Bird" is recording quality. As a listener, I can't miss the fact that beyond all of the technological limitations there is a good band in there somewhere. I just wish I could hear them without the hindrances.

ALBUM REVIEW ON GIRLPUNK.NET
Hooked from the start… This three piece band armed with entrancing vocals, memorizing guitar and rhythmic drums left quite the impression on me. The sound that Burning Idols summons up is so captivating it's easy to fathom listening to this CD over and over. Simply falling in love with the instrumentals on the first listen, Burning Idols' refreshing sound is fun, new and highly addictive. I wouldn’t be able to pinpoint what bands out there they sound like, but their sound is definitely recognizable and familiar.

The Feeding Bird’s lineup of songs created a nice, soft, hypnotic blend that was so easy to get lost in. The Burning Idols took me by surprise. With the vocals giving the instrumentals that extra touch, their sound was so refreshing. Surely, The Feeding Bird brings a new energy right to your fingertips. Burning Idols have a sound that’s new & captivating - one listen and you're hooked for sure.
